①Tokyo ESSに入会したきっかけ/Why I joined Tokyo ESS
I love public speaking, Japan, and Tokyo so it was the perfect fit! It's of course difficult to network with Japanese while people living in the US, but Tokyo ESS affords me that opportunity as every meeting is available online. As my Japanese skills are still very much at beginner level, I was also looking for a Japanese club that conducted meetings in English.
私はパブリックスピーキング、日本、そして東京が大好きなので、Tokyo ESSはまさに理想的な場所でした！アメリカに住んでいると日本人と交流するのは難しいですが、Tokyo ESSは毎回の例会がオンラインで参加できるため、その機会を与えてくれます。私の日本語はまだ初級レベルなので、英語で例会を行う日本のクラブを探していました。

Tokyo ESS members are mostly Japanese, but I and others from foreign countries around the world have also joined as members. It's a motley crew! And we compliment each other culturally and bring a variety of skills and talents as public speakers that makes each meeting exciting, interesting, and enriching.

Toastmasters Internationalは国際的組織のため、参加者も世界各国から集まるので、様々な国の方々と意見交換できるため、とても勉強になります。
また月２回の第２週の日曜日にオンライン形式と第４週の日曜日にハイブリッドで開催しているので、比較的参加しやすいところもおすすめできます。
Toastmasters International is an international organization, so participants gather from countries around the world. This provides a valuable learning experience as you can exchange ideas with people from diverse nations.
Additionally, we hold sessions online on the second Sunday of each month and in a hybrid style on the fourth Sunday, making it relatively easy to participate—another reason we recommend it.

At Tokyo ESS meetings, you'll not only develop your English communication skills but also learn leadership as you take on various roles. I love words, communication and cross cultural interactions. I felt inspired to look for a Japanese club, and since I am in Guatemala, it had to be an online one, I found Tokyo ESS searching on the web, visited it a few times as a guest.

2011年に入会しました。YouTubeで見た笑いあり感動ありの世界大会のスピーチに魅了されて興味を持ちました。トーストマスターズにはユーモアを磨くプログラムまであります。緊張するスピーチの場面で人を笑わせることなんて出来っこないと思っていましたが、少しずつ笑いがとれるようになってきたので、やはり入って良かったです。英語教師をしているため、このスキルは本当に重要だと思っています。最近は子育てもしているので、オンラインでも会場でも参加出来るのはありがたいことだと思っています。
I joined in 2011, inspired by the World Championship speeches I watched on YouTube. Toastmasters even offers programs to develop humor. I used to think it was impossible to make people laugh during a nerve-wracking speech, but little by little I've started to get laughs. That's when I truly realized how worthwhile joining was. As an English teacher, I believe this skill is incredibly important. And now that I'm also raising a child, I really appreciate being able to participate both online and in person.

私は大学生の頃にESSで英語スピーチをやっていましたが、自分の英語力に満足はしていませんでした。もっと高い英語力を身につけて、様々な英語を聴き取れるようになりたい、瞬時に対応出来るスピーキング力をつけたいと思ったのが入会の決め手になりました。
When I was a university student, I gave English speeches through ESS, but I was never fully satisfied with my English ability. I wanted to take my English to the next level—to understand different kinds of English and to develop the ability to respond instantly. That was what led me to join.

Tokyo ESSはメンバーが多国籍で様々な英語に触れる機会があります。メンバーが話す機会も多く、例会の最初と最後には全員が話します。英語を話して聞く場面がふんだんに与えられているところが良いと感じます。
Tokyo ESS is truly international, giving members the chance to experience many different types of English. Everyone has plenty of speaking opportunities, and at the beginning and end of each meeting, all members take the floor. I really value the fact that the environment is filled with chances to both speak and listen in English.

メンバーの皆は温かく、お互いに刺激を受けながら高めあうことが出来ます。会場で参加すると例会後のお茶会もあり、より仲良くなることが出来ます。また、What’s Appでメンバー同士が例会運営のためのやり取りを全て英語で行っています。日常に英語を取り入れたい方から、本格的に英語のプレゼンや会の運営をやりたい方まで大歓迎です。是非一度足を運んでみてください！
The members are warm and supportive, and we inspire each other to grow. When you attend in person, there's even a tea gathering after the meeting, which helps us build closer friendships. We also use WhatsApp entirely in English to coordinate the meetings. Whether you just want to casually bring more English into your daily life, or you're eager to seriously practice presentations and meeting management, everyone is welcome. I joined Toastmasters in 2023.
私の仕事では、海外オフィスや海外チームとのミーティングが頻繁にあります。その際に必要となる、西洋文化におけるミーティングのお作法やファシリテーションの方法を、トーストマスターズを通じて学ぶことができました。 実際の業務の場面でも大いに活かされており、入会して本当に良かったと感じています。
In my job, I often have meetings with overseas offices and teams. Through Toastmasters, I’ve learned meeting etiquette and facilitation skills in Western culture, which come in really handy during those meetings. I've been able to use these skills a lot in my actual work, and I'm really glad I joined.

オンラインと都内でのオンサイトミーティングが月に一回づつあり、日曜日にありバランスよく仕事に支障なく参加できるため。
The club has both online and in-person meetings in Tokyo once a month each, usually on Sundays. The schedule works well for me, so I can join without it affecting my work.

日本のみならずアメリカ、インド、ホンジュラス、スイスから様々な職業に就くプロフェッショナルなメンバーたちと和気藹々とクラブを運用、参加できる所がとてもユニークだと思います。
I think it's really unique that members come from all over—not just Japan, but also the U.S., India, Honduras, and Switzerland—and work in a variety of professions. Everyone participates in a friendly and welcoming way, which makes the club really enjoyable.

Message for anyone thinking about joining
色んなセミナーなど世の中にありますが、スピーチが上手くなる近道は実践あるのみだと思います。Tokyo ESSではスピーチのみならずリーダーシップなども学べますので興味があればぜひ見学にきてみてください!
There are lots of seminars out there, but I believe the best way to improve your speaking is by actually practicing. At Tokyo ESS, you can learn not only speaking skills but also leadership. If you’re interested, I highly recommend coming by to check it out!
